, a place of rest and contemplation. In fact, the mountain houses the sanctuary and Benedictine monastery dedicated to the Virgin of Montserrat.
Montserrat actually comes from the water: millions of years ago it was submerged. A series of tectonic movements raised the crags and formed the Montserrat mountain range, with its characteristic smooth and rounded forms.
The Virgin Patron Saint of Catalonia can also be seen there, known as the "Moreneta", thus named for the dark wood she was carved in. Legend has it that the first image of the Virgin of Montserrat was found by shepherd boys in the year 880. After seeing a light on the mountain, the children found the image of the virgin inside a cave.
